This morning (Saturday and 15 degrees out of course) our furnace started making a loud noise and then quit. After checking the basics, I contacted the after hours number for McKellips Heating and Cooling, who were the original installers over 13 years ago. They answered right away and Bailey arrived within 30 minutes and quickly found the problem. He returned a short time later with the part and made the repair. He was friendly, professional and appeared confident in what he was doing, even fixed a rattle the fan had been making. I would definitely call them again next time I need HVAC service.

Woke up to a cold house and called McKellips.  They arrived early, did a quick diagnostic assessment and fixed my problem fast.  Friendly, fast, good value.  I can't say enough good things about them.  Had McKellips install my furnace 15 years ago.  Used a few other folks for tune ups hear and there but I am sticking to McKellips from this point forward.  I realize they probably can't always get to people super fast and some problems are probably more challenging than mine turned out to be but they were there, trust worthy and got the house warm again.

Great product selection, great service, great value.  Very professional and responsive team.   I have used McKellips for all my HVAC needs since 1996.

At first I was very impressed then the service went downhill. We had a new a/c unit installed. It leaks. This company has a problem finding leaks, no shows for appointments repeatedly, blames problems on others, makes excuses, and drags their feet until the labor warranty runs out. Tracy in the office is also very rude! They obviously do not keep very good records because I have called them out repeatedly since my unit was installed telling them we don't have cold air. They have made it out a couple times to recharge it and put dye in to find the leak, but never show back up to finish diagnosing. Now they think they are going to charge me for the service calls when there had been a problem since day 1 with the unit. I don't care if it only had a 1 year warranty on labor. This company did not install it right to begin with, can not find the leak, and no shows constantly! The problem was brought to your attention way before the 1 year warranty on labor was up. By the way the leak was from the crappy soldering job that was done while installing the unit.

McKellips was the best option when it came to choosing a Heating and Cooling company for all new HVAC for my house downtown Grand Haven originally built in 1920. In order to add a complete second story of living space, Steve had the best plan to work with my existing old house and avoid adding bulk heads (many other companies wanted to put a bulk head in my kitchen or expensive mini-splits on the upper level). Steve's crew also custom built my duct work to keep as much head room in the basement as possible. Install of furnace and air conditioning was perfect. Tracey helped me apply for the maximum rebates possible and we just received the final inspection today. I highly recommend McKellips for all Heating and Cooling needs.

Wow....Had no idea how bad their service is until I read all the reviews. They were recommended to me as Nest experts by Nest, and from the minute they entered the house they did nothing but blaming Nest without listening to me or the steps we took to troubleshoot. I am an electrical engineer and I happened to know something about the process of elimination. These guys did none of it with an attitude on top. Finally, and somehow the tech after three and a half hours of dancing around nest and making calls, he listened and removed the electronic board cover as I told him. This was the only time the issue (Error 74 - furnace shutting off) disappears which means sucking in cool air from the room is helping. Easy but it took that much time to get to that point to find out it was the limit switch. Then another hour and a half to get it and install it. A total of 3 and 1/2 hours they charged me for and threatened to take me to small claims to get it paid. We paid and we are taking other steps. I do not recommend them at all.

McKellips and Sons Heating and Cooling jeopardized my family's safety by cutting corners.
We did a major home renovation in April/ May 2018, the project was planned and scheduled way in advance due to the nature of the project and the variety of contractors involved.  When it was time for McKellips and Sons to reconnect our home to the natural gas line, they were busy with other jobs so they rushed our job.  Steve McKellip came out to do the work instead of sending out a HVAC crew.  He reconnected the line and placed a pressure meter but did not wait to make sure the line held pressure.

I attempted to work this out with McKellips and Sons.  Tracy, who works in the office insisted that I speak with her even though I asked to speak directly with Steve who was unavailable at the time.  She was defensive from the start, unwilling to admit fault and made multiple excuses.  What was meant to be a discussion turned into an unnecessary argument.  She said that I was overacting and that my family was never in danger because we had not yet moved back in (we were planning on moving home that evening).  I told her that I would like a discount on the bill to which she said absolutely not and that if I did not pay the entire bill they would take me to small claims court.  I told her that I would share my story very publicly to which she replied that no one takes those complaints seriously.
I am what would be considered a loyal customer.  If you do great work for me, the next time I need work I do not shop around for cheaper I always use a good company twice.  So even though I had similar situation with McKellips and Sons January 2017, they were the first company I called for this project.  The situation in January occurred when McKellips failed to obtain a pressure test and failed to request the Township to inspect their work; during the January situation we had to sleep at a hotel because we were left with no heat during single digit outside weather.  Now I recognize that this is a corner that they repeatedly cut but this time the situation could have been deadly.
I will pay the $955.84 bill of which $45.84 is parts and $910 is labor.  Had they have done the job correctly the first time, worked all (or even the majority of the hours) before giving the ok to schedule with DTE, and not have lied about obtaining an inspection, I would have paid the bill without hesitation and all of this would have been avoided.
This letter is meant to service as a Public Service Announcement for home owners.  Even when you hire a professional company you still need to be aware what is being done at your home.

It's no surprise that the AC unit at work was not working properly- what a hot couple of weeks we've had! What was a surprise was that within half an hour of calling McKellips & Sons, their friendly technician had already replaced the bad part and we were up and running, ready for the next heat wave. I have to say I was very disappointed. Although the heat was out late Saturday night I waited until Monday to call because I wanted only them, as they had installed the unit. Sadly, the guy (I guess there is only one) was on vacation and they sent a different company.  He said he didn't recognize our unit, and did we have an owners manual? Alarm bells went off in my head but ok. Soon after he said that he figured "it's the mother board" but he didn't know for certain. He said those were expensive and he'd get back to us. Several hours later I called the company and asked what was going on. The woman who answered decided we needed a "mother board" and ordered it. When I asked for a second opinion, feeling the guy simply had no clue, she must have assumed I meant a different company because she became very aggressive and said she'd sue me in small claims if I didn't pay her fees. I was so shocked I didn't even know what to say. She was SO RUDE. The guy CLEARLY was guessing! Well, they showed up with the part and guess what? It did not work. They replaced one part at a time bringing my bill to almost 800.00 before we had heat. A few hours later she called and said it had been a power surge and to call the insurance company because that was covered. The insurance company LAUGHED ME OFF THE PHONE after asking several questions and determining it most defiantly was NOT a power surge. "They are feeding you a line of bull." Never again. Never again. If this business is reading this, please remove me from your mailing list. Thanks!
