We had some concern about where and how to keep our house warmer during winter so I just called to get someone out here. I got in touch with Steve and he was flexible enough to meet me whenever I was available. Anyway, Steve was very through, knowledgeable and was able to explain to me pretty much everything that I needed to know to make some decisions on what we needed to do to have a more efficient warm house. As it turned out (thankfully) no major issues were discovered! You can trust that they won't find something wrong for no reason just to make money for their company. I totally trust this company (or at least Steve) to be honest in their recommendations. As it turns out there are a few things we can do but it's not going to cost us nearly as much as I was thinking by bringing the experts in and giving me the run around!

Thanks for calling Accurate-Airtight Exteriors to evaluate your newly purchased home and thank you for the kind review. It is our company mission to provide honest and practical solutions to observed building issues. A few recommendations for energy improvements were discussed, but overall, the home is very efficient as is! Congratulations! Your positive comments are greatly appreciated!

We contracted accurate airtight to insulate our attic spaces. Upon inspection the representative noticed vermiculite in some areas of the attic area. Some of the vermiculite was removed but unfortunately there was some found under the floor boards which I felt could be covered with plywood so it would not be disturbed. I contacted accurate about covering the floor boards to prevent any disturbance but did not hear from them for a couple weeks. I contacted them after the 2 weeks and the company did not agree to this option. I of course had to cancel the project and asked for a refund. Tge refund finally came back about 2 months later short $200.00 and I was sent an invoice charging me 200 for travel. This i find unacceptable since there was separate attic spaces they could have worked on that didn't have vermiculite present but instead ghosted us for months.

      Response from the owner

We are sorry that this project could not be completed as planned. During our initial assessment of the building an area of vermiculite insulation was discovered. Vermiculite insulation is likely to contain asbestos and must be removed by a certified professional before we can work in this contaminated area. The homeowner hired an asbestos abatement company. The company removed the vermiculite that was visible above flooring in an attic section but failed to remove the vermiculite under the flooring. The homeowner then informed Accurate-Airtight Exteriors that vermiculite had been removed and that work could proceed. Shortly after the A-AE crew started work they found that there was still vermiculite under floored attic sections. Our insulation plan for this area was to drill holes in the flooring and blow cellulose insulation at a high density (dense packing) into the floor perimeter. This would have disturbed the vermiculite and would have created unsafe working conditions for our crew and homeowner. After working for part of the morning, work was ceased when the vermiculite was found. The homeowner was advised to have an asbestos abatement contractor remove the vermiculite before work could continue. When the homeowner declined to have the vermiculite removed it was mutually agreed to halt the project and refund the down payment the homeowner made. We regret that that the processing of the refund took more time than it should have. We also could have had a better flow of communication with the homeowner, although we do have a record of emails and phone calls made and received during this 2-month period. We thought it was more than fair to charge a minor $200 fee for the time the crew (four people) spent on site for part of a morning and doing some attic prep work. We are sorry that your project could not be completed as planned. We do take the health and safety of our staff and clients extremely seriously.

Great work. They were very flexible with setting up a time to complete the work. The team was respectful and didn't leave a mess behind. Kevin and Alan did a great job! Steve was very good about keeping us up to date and getting the schedule set.

      Response from the owner

Thanks for your 5 star review! We appreciate you taking the time out of your busy life to let others know of your experience with A-AE. This project was done in two stages. The upper attic was air sealed and insulated in 2020 which included resolving an attic moisture issue by properly venting a bathroom exhaust fan. Then in 2021 we did additional insulation work in the lower attic, rear cantilever, garage ceiling, some sidewall sections, and we spray foamed basement sill boxes. We expect the work completed by Accurate-Airtight Exteriors across your house should make a noticeable difference in comfort and save energy too.
