  My experience started when I noticed our monthly electric bill this winter was much higher than in the past.  Thus, I started monitoring our day to day electric use using the Georgia Power app.  I should point out that this is a second home for us and when unoccupied, we turn all thermostats down to 60 degrees and turn off the water heater.   Historically, when our home was unoccupied on winter months, our electric bill would range from $3 to $5 per day.  This was a far cry from the $10 to $15 per day we were currently experiencing. Since I did not know any HVAC companies in the area, we started with another local company.  This company could not find any issues during their inspection and the problem of high electric bills persisted.  Next, I called R and M HVAC because of their excellent Google ratings/reviews.  R & M quickly identified two issues.  First, there was a hole in the duct work near the furnance in the attic which was keeping the attic at temperatures exceeding 100 degrees (this was obvious even to me).  Second, the thermostat on the furnace which guages outside air temperature had been moved from outside the house to inside the attic.  This thermostat should be outside the house near the compressors.  As a result of these two issues, our dual fuel furnance was not switcing over from electricity to gas when it was very cold outside (it was toasty warm in the attic) and was spinning our electric meter off the wall!  As previously noted, our electric bill was ranging from $10 to $15 per day unoccupied!!  Following correction of these two issues, our electric bill returned to a normal level during unoccupied periods of $3 to $5 per day.  The house is three levels with around 3,300 square feet in case a reader is wondering for comparison purposes.  In summary, Ron, an owner of R & M, came out personally to my home along with one assistant.  No sending an unexperienced technican as was the case with the first company (even though I was promised when I made the appointment they would be sending a technican with 15 years experience).  I am a very satisfied customer and can gladly recommend R & M Heating and Cooling in Clayton!

  I have a friend in Rabun that used R&M and would never use them again. He didn’t want to do a review so I’m doing it for him. They overcharged for the system and never finished getting it working. They would never return to finish the job. From what my friend says, I give him a zero.
