  As an mechanical engineer, I did the trouble shooting on our office, home and car air conditioning for many years so have a reasonable idea how a/c units work, what to look for and what work is necessary. I am especially aware of strategies used by service companies to pad or flat out cheat people who are not aware. I checked out my system and determined it was a failed blower motor on a 2-3yr old unit. I knew the blower motor unit (capacitor and motor) wasn't starting properly (hard/slow start - so could be capacitor and/or motor). Wasn't sure if freezing of condenser line (outside) was due to the lack of air flow from the blower motor on the evaporator unit (inside unit) or if it was also an independent problem of low refrigerant causing the freezing. Called Ted at Foothills Heating and Air and made an appt withing 24 hrs. Ted came early, highly professional and friendly. Checked out the capacitor (cheapest fix) and found that was good. Checked out the motor and that was clearly a problem.Quoted a very good price including replacement motor and labor using aftermarket motor or could check prices on OEM (original equipment manufacturer) motor. Pulled out the blower fan assembly and looked over the motor. When he got the motor out, he thought it might be under warranty so Ted took the initiative to call his supplier and found out it was under a 5 yr warranty. Ted drove to the supplier to pick it up and replaced the motor. He also checked the condenser unit (outside unit) and confirmed it was not low on refrigerant and needed no service at all (a common scam tactic: You need to replace the refrigerant, blown compressor if still running cold or at proper temps/pressures). (Other companies in the area charge $36?/mo for a "service contract" and according to reviews in our neighborhood stated that they still got charged high rates.) I highly recommend Ted and his son for professionalism, efficiency, quality work, trustworthiness and honesty. The kind of guy you could trust to work on your mom's house if she doesn't know anything about air conditioners. Thank you Ted!
