I recently purchased a home that had a newer air conditioning unit purchased from First Class. The prior owner was elderly and relocated. She told me the unit was malfunctioning sporadically (would shut off and not turn on) and that there was still warranty on the unit should the problem arise again. Sure enough it occurred again and again and again (10 times). I contacted First Class. They advised that their full warranty only covers the original purchaser and that the new owner would only get a partial warranty (materials only). While not the answer I expected to hear, I had them out because it was nearly 100 degrees in my home. Clearly they don’t honor the warranty due to their experience that the units aren’t high quality and won’t last 5 years. Sure enough, the unit needed a control board. I called the manager (Matt) and spoke to him while the technician was on site. I explained that the unit should be covered under warranty and if not, there should at least be an exception since the prior owner had this issue and it wasn’t resolved from the beginning (when the unit was under full warranty). He said the manufacturer covers the warranty and that is Goodman. I am a real estate investor and the reputation of Goodman equals garbage. Nonetheless, in this case Goodman isn’t the manufacturer, First Class is. When you private label your item to remove the Goodman name and put your name and website, you are now the manufacturer and Goodman is the subcontractor. First Class came to my home and charged a $99 service call fee and $325 for “labor”. The part is available for $100 so really I paid $100 for the part and $225 for labor, plus a $99 service call fee. The First Class warranty didn’t cover anything. I am writing this post primarily because this is a bait and switch and predatory practice. They sold the prior elderly owner a pitch of a warranty that is a joke and they can’t honor their own branded products because they are poor quality. While Goodman = Garbage, First Class = No Class
Response from the owner
Mr. Kaiser, Goodman manufactures our First Class product, as the adhered Goodman Manufacturing label reflects on every unit. This label is where the model and serial numbers are also listed. Every homeowner may visit Goodmanmfg.com to verify their warranty before requesting a service call—especially on equipment new to them. We updated you on your warranty before scheduling the service call where you still requested our services and approved the repair at the quoted cost. Our prior history at your location had no pending issues, or we would have gladly returned to help the customer resolve them before her home's sale. When the original homeowner purchases the unit, they receive a packet with information reflecting the warranties that state it is non-transferable—something we wish you were informed of or requested at the time of your home’s purchase. Unfortunately, we cannot honor a warranty no longer in effect, regardless of the manufacturer/brand. All air conditioning manufacturers offer a registered parts warranty to the original homeowner. Once the home changes ownership, it reverts to a standard base warranty. That is Goodman, Trane, Ruud, and other household names you may recognize—all of which may also experience issues at any given point during their warranty terms. You may also visit our website at ACTruth.com to learn more about warranties with links to all brands and transferability privileges. We try our best to inform Southwest Florida homeowners of all things related to air conditioning and hope we can help future homeowners understand their coverage upon new homeownership. If you would like to inquire about branding on Goodman systems and why they are still under Goodman warranty, please get in touch with a Goodman representative at 877-254-4729.

Very very happy and many thanks to Kevin, Jonathan and Billy for their fantastic work and customer service.
