I was a customer for over 10 years. The last 2 years I requested that the gauge on my tank be replaced. We ran out of fuel several times due to the broken gauge. Each time we were charge an emergency fill charge.

I have always had a positive experience with E&V. They are very polite and helpful and just make the fuel delivery and either leave the invoice in the mailbox or on the door. I've been with them for years.

I contacted E&V to do a yearly boiler maintenance. They arrived on time and were very professional. They noticed an issue with my boiler and asked if they could come later back with a part to fix it and do the yearly maintenance then instead; noting that the part might be expensive but it would be extremely quick (~15 min) to change. They did not say anything about extra charges for coming back or diagnosing as they didn't touch anything and were in the house for about 5 minutes. They then responded with a labor and parts quote a few days later with ~2 hours of labor! That's 6 times longer than what the tech told me it would take! The person on the phone provided no explanation of why the labor increased so much from the visit to the quote. I said that for that price I'd rather buy the part and install it myself but requested a new time for the original maintenance appointment. That same day they put a bill in the mail for me to pay for a $100 "diagnostic/trip charge" and noted the work performed as "annual tune-up" I called to ask about the charge wondering why it was never explained to me that I would be charged if they returned and they provided no explanation even after noting the work performed was completely out of thin air and never done (Again, they never touched the boiler). They knew they were in the wrong and offered $20 off of the $100 bill with no further help. They noted that if I didn't pay it would be sent to collections. I'll keep this post updated on the resolution, hopefully E&V will make it right (See edit below, company doubled down on fraud). Please do yourself a favor and explore better HVAC options. I would've rather paid more money to a better company to not have to deal with them. Short version: Multiplied labor charges by 6x with no explanation why and back charged for services not rendered after the fact. EDIT: After reading the response from the owner, it's nothing but more of the same. The boiler was functional at the time the tech arrived and still functional upon their departure. It's still working to this day, despite the tech telling me that the inducer likely had only minutes remaining before it would die. I'm guessing your tech noted that the boiler was off because it was in fact off when he arrived, it's hot outside and the house wasn't calling for any heat. As it turns out most boilers aren't on 24/7 and only produce heat when required (you'd think an HVAC tech would know this). The tech said he could do the cleaning but said it would be easier for him if he came back and did the replacement inducer work and cleaning at the same time and asked if that was okay. I asked if it was any extra charge to come back, he said no even if I rejected the costs to replace the inducer. Therefore I gave my approval for no additional costs, just a longer wait time, I never granted diagnostic approval or any associated costs. I also did not call to let E&V to let them know that I "found someone cheaper", I rejected their work proposal because the labor charged were a large multiple of what the tech had indicated they would be during his visit, and based on my research, seemed unreasonable.
Response from the owner
We are very sorry that you were not completely satisfied. Upon arrival for the maintenance cleaning our technician discovered that your boiler was shut off because it had not been working. Since we can not perform a routine service on a unit that isn't working, our technician quoted a $100 diagnoses fee to find out what was wrong. After receiving your approval, our technician found out what was wrong with the unit. We called back later to let you know that you needed a new inducer draft motor, and the total cost for the repair including the part and 1.5 hours of labor. A couple of days later you called back to let us know that you found someone cheaper to do the repair. The $100 charge you incurred was to diagnose a non working unit which we did. You were offered a $20 off coupon to make it easier financially for you since you still had an expensive repair for the unit. You were not charged anything other than the diagnoses fee. Hopefully this clears up any misunderstanding. Sincerely, E & V Energy
