Very disappointed. Had a tech out for a furnace inspection. Charged $95 to just check Carbon Monoxide levels then preceded to red tag our furnace for higher than normal levels in the exhaust. Their techs red tag at more than 100ppm. Legal limit is 400ppm which we were well under. They wanted to replace our old but perfectly functional furnace and quoted $1k over competition for a new unit. Had another company inspect our furnace for a second opinion and said we were perfectly safe to continue operation.

      Response from the owner

Mr Rice, Thank you for your feedback concerning your unsafe furnace. Unfortunate that you did not share your concerns in person when you were in our office returning the No Charge temp heaters our technician left at your home until you could resolve the safety issue with your furnace. You scheduled WestAIR for a second opinion after unusually high CO readings you received from your gas company. Our technician also found unsafe concentration of CO readings. Your reading was over 300ppm. Our technicians are trained and instructed the same as the gas company technicians to red tag the furnace as unsafe, when the ppm levels go above 100ppm. See Chart Below: Carbon Monoxide Concentrations: Furnaces: 100ppm or lower = allowable. *105ppm-245ppm = Yellow Tag (service & retesting needed) *250ppm or higher = Red Tag (unsafe-do not use) Inhalation Times and Toxic Symptoms: 9 ppm The maximum allowable concentration for short term exposure in a living area according to ASHRAE. 35 ppm The maximum allowable concentration for continuous exposure in any eight hour period, according to federal law. 200 ppm Maximum concentration allowable at any time according to OSHA. Slight headaches, fatigue, dizziness, nausea after 2-3 hours. For the protection of you and your family we are glad you were able to resolve the safety issue with your furnace to your satisfaction. WestAIR takes pride in being honest, fair and competitively priced for our more than 10,000 satisfied customers since 1986. Please contact our Service department directly if you have further concerns. 763-498-8071 Thank you.

The service technician, Zach, was very thorough in my furnace tune up, answered all my questions, and addressed my concerns. I had one question in particular and he found the problem immediately. He is definitely excellent at what he does, along with being a good listener and explainer.
