I’ve known the owner and his wife since I was 5 years old. Without a doubt, Jim Deedrick is a class act, highly reputable, honest, fair, and very hard working. He is extremely knowledgeable in refrigeration repairs, specifications for new systems, and stays current with training on new technology. The repairs he and his staff do aren’t just band-aid repairs...they fix it right and when completed everything looks and is professional. The sophistication of modern refrigeration controls and systems requires top notch technicians to properly diagnose. That’s exactly what Thornes provides on each and every job!

Here's an overview of my terrible experience with Thorne's in Winona. My business purchased a commercial cooler from a 3rd party and used it for a few months. The compressor went out on it shortly thereafter. I called Thorne's to schedule a service appointment. They said they would check in to their schedule and call me back. After receiving NO confirmation or advance notice from them, they called me 2 days later and state that there is a service tech waiting at my business for someone to show up. We did not expect them so we were not on site. I explained that I was not on site and it would take me 2 hours to get to the site. They stated that their tech was already in the area and they did not mind him waiting. Once I arrived on site, the tech came in and had the issue diagnosed in less than 10 minutes and was on his way. A week later, I receive an invoice charging me for 2 hours of labor, plus additional fees. I called Jim, the manager/owner and explained that I did not feel it was appropriate for them to charge me for the time that their tech spent waiting at my warehouse because it was THEIR CHOICE to dispatch a tech without verifying or contacting me first to coordinate. After arguing about it, Jim tried to negotiate by taking 30 mins off the bill which was unacceptable. The total time involved in sending a tech from their door to mine, diagnosing, and back to the shop is a total of 50 mins. They charge a minimum of one hour for any call, so I explained that I am glad to pay the full one hour, but not 2 hours which was clearly unreasonable. After further debate Jim agreed to drop the extra hour, but pulled a dirty move of adding additional "truck charge" and other charges to bring the total back up to just $50 less than the full 2 hour charge. My question is, why wouldn't this business owner see the sales opportunity and establish a positive relationship with me as a potential client(I am stuck with a dead cooler and need another one). He can't see the forest through the trees and is haggling with me about one hour of labor charge?? Pathetic and it shows his lack of integrity and business wherewithal as well. Now he has not only lost a potential sale and ongoing service contracts, but I will be spreading this experience through my entire network of contacts. Avoid these con-artists like the plague.
