Roof Snow Removal. After the last snowstorm there was 2+ feet of a snow drift on my roof, (in addition to the roof being snow covered). I happened to view a TV story on snow removal where they interview Roofing Rochester NY. I called the company the next day. The technician, Matt, came to my home on time, and as scheduled. Matt cleared the roof completely and also clear the areas where snow fell in the walkway and driveway. Matt was courteous, professional and took pride in the task at hand to completion. I highly recommend Roofing Rochester NY.

If you prefer not to read the details here and just want the TLDR; version– consider yourself warned, DO NOT hire Roofing Rochester, check out some of their work below. Not sure how most of their reviews are so glowing (perhaps they are fake?) but I can assure you hiring this company was a mistake and as they say, hindsight is 20/20. The first red flag should have been the day they started the job– May 18. After trading a few horror stories with the sales team about using subcontractors– you can imagine how shocked we were when a truck pulled in emblazoned with the name MONROE ROOFING, aka a completely different company we signed a contract with. From subcontracting the work to another company to lying straight to my face that they didn't subcontract despite their conflicting answers- same company, sister company, affiliated, have worked with them for years, etc. (Monroe Roofing established an LLC in December of 2020), they had every chance to come clean and correct the first red flag and they didn't. It was clear there was ZERO communication and oversight with their subcontractors and Roofing Rochester management. We were told the job would take a max of 5 days. Yet for over a month, we had a mess, noise (which is expected for a few days but becomes a huge issue when you work from home), and a revolving door of people coming to our house at sporadic times– 8am to 9pm. Next, I'll touch on the attention (aka lack thereof) to detail and craftsmanship. It was a complete hack job and they try to cut corners everywhere they can. Again some damage to trim and paint is to be expected during a complete tear-off. What is NOT okay, is completely DESTROYING trim and literally pushing nails through the trim of over 60% of the house and garage. Not only does this destroy the integrity of the trim, it looks HORRIBLE. Nails and holes are visible every few inches. And now we have to expedite painting our house so it doesn't become a bigger issue. We also had to argue to get shingles actually put on a portion of our roof (!!!!) where they first chose to just put rolled black roofing and tried to argue that it was "finished and didn't need shingles". Likewise, in all areas in which they were supposed to apply white flashing, there is black rolled roofing. Still not corrected. They reference "it was not in the contract" (because they omitted it) despite their sales person confirming and documented in texts with the project manager. Now let's talk about communication. Between raising the issues to our sales person, the project manager (Mike Pringle) and then finally the owner (Paul) over the course of a MONTH, the response time and how the very obvious and ongoing issues were handled was a complete joke. We had to ask them to actually come to the house on multiple occasions to see the issues for themselves- since they couldn't bother to actually do the job themselves and had subcontracted it out. Each time there was an excuse and they tried to rationalize the work and that it was ok, things "look fine", or just became straight up combative. But when blatantly asked "would you want your house to look like this?" had zero to say. Instead of working to fix the mistakes in both quality of work and service, the owner Paul said he would "take $100 off so we could part on good terms" which is laughable, embarrassing, and a complete slap in the face. We are NOT parting on good terms. And I can only hope come winter there are no issues with the work we can't see because if there is further damage to our home because of their work, there are going to be serious problems. Both myself and my boyfriend (he in a similar home improvement industry) are business owners, we understand there are projects that have issues and things happen. But it's how you handle them and make it right. I hope if you've made it to this point I don't need to convince you to NOT hire them. Do yourself a favor and call another roofing company. But make sure it's not Monroe Roofing or any other "associated" with Paul Melnik or Mike Pringle.

      Response from the owner

Danielle Thank you for the opportunity you gave us to work on this old house. I know how hard it is to have such a massive project done on one's home/ sanctuary. That's why we take extra care to cover the home with extra protection during the tear off of the roof. When you came outside we took down most of that plywood and netting to protect the other side that needed to be torn off It's tough to keep paint on cedar siding due to the way cedar reacts to water based paint and when it cracks it will eventually start to rot wood. This goes under the radar until a massive project like a roof replacement happens (especially when it's the original roof to the house, from back when cedar shakes were used). There was rotted wood that we offered to custom make for you but you guys declined the change order. Next I'd like to address the flashing that was mentioned in the text messages and proposal... it was drip edge. That can't cover a whole flat section of roofing. We never agreed to put on metal roofing. I know that roofing terms aren't that clear to everyone but we have made a point to explain that detail even more so that people don't get confused about this in the future. We did make a mistake with the nails in fascia crown molding. The angle that the guys installed those nails was a few degrees off. We did address that by coming out and cutting off those protuberances. We also patched and painted those areas. We also came out everytime you added a new item to the punch-list (about 12 times). And told you that we don't want to get paid till you are 100% satisfied. I know that times are tough and you might have been happier if we offered you more than $100 off of the contract but we mentioned to you that we don't want any money until we satisfied all the terms of our contract. (Thank you for your final payment). Some people have a different level of needs when it comes to how much communication they are comfortable with . I just counted the amount of times our staff and I reached out to you and it was more than 100 times. We will be adding this question into our process. I want to make sure we cater properly to this need. Concerning the crew. As big companies grow they buy smaller outfits that have good people and can improve the bigger company. That's the stage we are in and since it's the busy season for us roofers, we can't take equipment to our vinyl graphics team to get it re-branded for a week. That is now something we mention to homeowners so that it won't create confusion. Thank you for being the iron that sharpens iron. We know that feedback from our clients is the only way we can improve. I wish you the best in your business D.Studios! P.S. I'm pretty sure fake reviews are easy to spot. Just look at the other reviews those people left and if it was a fake account than it wouldn't have history with other reviews they left earlier. Just a thought.

I had an amazing experience with Roofing Rochester!!! If you need something done to your roof or gutters, contact this company right now. We noticed that there was a leak in our roof one rainy day and I contacted Roofing Rochester to see if they could help. The owner Paul got back to me ASAP. In total, I had 3 companies come out to check out what was going on and I decided to go with Roofing Rochester. Paul was able to give me the best price and he genuinely cares about his customers and wants them to be happy. We did a full tear off roof and it was completed in 2 days. The crew was fast, efficient and they did a great job cleaning up after each day. We had to replace 3 skylights and during the process of the skylights being pulled out, the inside paint was ruined. I wasn't too happy because I had just paid to have my house repainted and I mentioned that to Paul. I know that this isn't really their fault but Paul said that they would fix the inside of the skylights for free. Our skylights are very awkward to get to and the guys (including Mike the general manager) came out and made sure they were repaired (it was even on a Saturday). I'm super pleased with how everything came out and I'm really appreciative to Paul and all the workers at Roofing Rochester!
