I contracted Dax&his crew to install garage unit heaters in my daughter's new home. I have had many occasions to have HVAC jobs done for me. I can say without hesitation PCS has been the best. They know their stuff. They can find a soluton should the job be a bit "unusual". They are neat while working and in our case, at least, cleaned up well upon completion. I can recommend them without reservation.

PCS was provided by Landmark Home Warranty for a hot water heater replacement after their first business contact was denied requested mileage compensation to my distant rural location. The business owner was told to look for additional items/components and suggest/convince the homeowner of the need to replace same, in lieu of any mileage reimbursement. When PCS arrived for the pre water heater replacement visit, the first statement I heard was that the 9 year old (dual hot water heaters) flue installed, inspected and satisfied Idaho code, did not meet code but $300 would resolve that; second, was that the expansion tank needed to be replaced for only $100. Why, I asked. It's old and needs to be replaced was the reply. The visit ended I researched the Idaho water heater flue requirements/code and contacted Landmark Home Warranty again with my dissatisfaction. They were very accommodating and let me know it was their way or the highway and the only other option was for me to drive 79 miles each way to haul the LHW furnished hot water heater to my home and either find someone else to install it or do it myself. The removal/installation route involved some stairs and was a two person task so, I was quickly caught between a rock and a hard place. Long story short PCS personnel returned for the replacement. Unknown until the new (same brand) water heater was to be installed in the floor pan was it discovered that it was slightly larger in diameter which would have required a very minor modification to the flue but the installer's mind was already made up that the flue was not up to code. Approximately 6 feet of 4 inch flue pipe and a handful of sheet metal screws and $300 ($50/foot) added to the bill (LHW covered labor) was all it took. Last but not least, most experienced professionals making service calls carry an inventory of normally consumed/needed parts or fittings/gaskets for the inevitable. No such luck here, so when one of the dielectric pipe fittings used from the old water heater leaked, an 84 mile round trip and another $150 parts charge finally completed the job and definitely compensated many miles. The Land Mark Home Warranty was a well meaning gift from the realtor when we sold our home; ours was her last because of all the negative feedback about the company. An unscrupulous and expensive experience to say the least; won't be using either again.
Response from the owner
We are sorry to hear of your dissatisfaction with the service provided by PCS and Landmark. As you have noted, there are items that are a part of normal truck stock, unfortunately we cannot anticipate all odds and ends that may be needed on each individual call as there are many brands. Labor and travel are always covered by home warranty companies. We do not charge home owners outside of a warranty, for warranty repairs. As per our contract, every charge is transparent and pre-approved by the home warranty company and the home owner before repairs are done. No work is done prior to explicit explanation of the repair work needed to be completed and the charges to complete them, being explained and approved by the homeowner. As you mentioned, Landmark is very clear about allowing homeowners to make the final decision. We do our best to complete repairs in a timely manner and as efficiently as possible but there is the rare occasion that a second trip is necessary. You were not charged travel upon return. We are sorry you regret your experience. We sincerely thank you for your feedback and we wish you well.
