Wow, I have never taken the time to write one of these, but here goes. Recently I requested a service call for a unit that was sold and installed by this company a little less then three years ago. Upon arriving (late) the technician explained that the company no longer sold Trane Xr units and now offered a “Lux Air” model that was “more dependable.” I was shocked after 2 3/4 hours when the tech explained that the compressor was bad. The tech informed me that although the unit had been sold and installed by this company a bit less than three years prior I was on the hook for the labor side of a bad compressor. I was basically at a lost for words when the tech explained that the company no longer sold these Trane XR units do to a perceived problem with durability. The tech explained that the company had switched to a “Lux Air” model that had proven to be more reliable. While my compressor part was under warranty I was told that I would be on the hook for anywhere between 1000 and 1400 dollars for labor. I was also informed that although this company had sold and installed the current unit less then three years ago I was in luck. You see, I was informed that if I acted fast I would be able to purchase a whole new “lower unit” and have it “on the truck tomorrow” for only $3000.00. I’m still on the tracks so to speak as I’m trying to decide if I should purchase the labor for a Trane compressor or go with the currently recommended “LuxAir” lower unit. Just wondering which manufacturer this company will switch to your in the next few years. Ohh by the way it was only $250 for the tech to diagnose that the compressor was bad in the unit bought from this company known to this company ( according to tech) to have bad compressors. Seems strange that if the tech knew that these formerly sold and installed units from this company had a high prevalence for bad compressors it would take nearly 3 hours to diagnose but I don’t want to back seat drive. Please hold companies accountable, we work hard for our money and deserve more. I hope this modern day word of mouth persuades someone to make an informed decision! Thanks.
Response from the owner
Mountaineer Mechanical is dedicated to our customers and giving great customer service. We received a calling stating their air conditioner was not working. We worked with them to find a day that would work with their schedule. We were not late and spoke before we arrived. We found that the unit had a faulty compressor. The property had been recently purchased and the warranty for the equipment had not been transferred. There are several factors that could have caused the issue such as maintenance, power surges, etc. Although unfortunate, it is not something that warrants a bad review because of an expensive repair. We gave a couple options so that the customer can decide what they feel is the best decision for them.

Very nice company. All the employees are respectful and get the work done right the first time at a cheap cost. I would recommend this company for any HVAC or plumbing needs.
