I don't know what it is about comstock park JSW location but they are by far the least welcoming of all the branches. I've been to most of the branches in Michigan and they are by far the worst. Theres no hello, how can I help you. Nothing. They stand at their computers and pray you dont see them so they dont have to help you. I've met the owner of Johnstone and he is a lovely man. So to see his store in Comstock Park run the counter this way is disappointing. Service is key to a successful business.

Hi Morgan, thank you for bringing this to my attention. Your experience is not our intention by any means. I have already spoken to the branch manager and we are reviewing how this happened. I want to assure you that we can do better. Feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss further. Thanks again. Tom Johnson

I'll start with the positive...they did have the part I needed. Obtaining that part was quite an ordeal. On Christmas Eve, my furnace died. The high temperatures were in the single digits and teens on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. I have 2 children and fortunately we have a wood-burning stove in the kitchen but the bedrooms were cold. As someone who is not afraid of doing her own home repairs, I pulled out my furnace manual and figured out that my limit switch had burned out (a $13 part). I found a store online (Johnstone supply) and made plans to head out early in the morning to buy the part. I found Johnstone supply easily enough and walked in with my old part in hand with plans to buy a new one. There were three employees behind the counter. On was on the phone and the other two employees were helping 2 men at the other end of the counter. No one said "Hello", "I'll be right with you", or any other greeting. In fact, they just stared at me like I didn't belong there and mumbled to one another. I stood waiting for the employee on the phone to end his call while the other two employees did their best to pretend I wasn't there. Finally, the guy on the phone hung up and looked up at me, scowling. "How ya doing?", he said. "Cold", I replied. "I'm hoping you can help me. I need a limit switch", I said, pulling the part out of my pocket. "Are you a contractor?", he said. I told him I wasn't. "We only sell to contractors", he informed me. When I asked if he knew of anyone that sold these to non-contractors, he bluntly said, "No". As I turned to walk out, thinking about how I was going to try to fix my furnace now that I couldn't buy the part, I heard the group of the men at the other end of the counter start LAUGHING. I couldn't imagine what someone would find funny about a person with a broken furnace on a bitterly cold December morning in Michigan. Then it hit me. "They only sell to contractors, huh?" I turned around and went back in the store. I approached one of the customers who had overheard the ordeal and laughed at my situation. I approached and asked if he was a contractor. "Yes", he said looking confused. I pulled out my part and showed it to him and said, "My family is freezing and I need this part. Can you help me?" The employees did not seem very happy to make the sale but there was nothing they could do. I understand that they were following their policies by not selling to me and I understand why they don't typically sell to people who aren't contractors. However, a little compassion for someone with a broken furnace during such inclement weather would have gone a long way. I probably would have just gone home and figured something else out, but the fact that the employees found it humorous was appalling. I'm sure that the staff here are very friendly to contractors and people who are "supposed" to be there but if you stumble in there by mistake, don't expect any help or even common respect. P.S. I fixed my furnace

Thank you for taking the time to write this review. I am very sorry this was your experience. While we don't sell homeowners directly our employees are directed to be friendly and offer options on how to obtain needed parts. This week I have been using your review to revisit how we handle homeowner situations like this in all our other branches as well as this one. The employees involved feel bad and said the laughter you heard was unrelated to your visit. My sincere apologies and thank you again for valuable feedback that will allow us to do much better in the future. Glad you got your heat restored in the end. Tom Johnson VP Sales & Mkt
