  Short version: They got my heater running (improperly), bypassed half of the limit (safety) switches, lied when they said it was safe, didn't come back for second appointment, and another local technician knew them by their (shoddy) workmanship. Long story: I hired J&S to fix our heater last winter. We had a problem with the sequencer and the limit switches. They replaced the sequencer, but rather than replace the 2 faulty limit switches, they bypassed them. He explained that he couldn't replace them because the information stickers on them were gone/too faded to read. I asked if that was a safety issue and was assured it was not. Also, although the sequencers are new, they were not timed correctly so the fan turns off before the coils do at the end of the cycle. Let me explain why that's a problem. If you don't know, the limit switches cut power to the heating coils if they overheat (like if the fan stops working). So they left us with a furnace that won't evacuate excess heat at the end of the cycle, and coils that wont turn off when they get too hot. We almost had a fire on two occasions, so I made an appointment for them to come back out to fix the problem. They never showed. Today I had another local technician come out to get the cooling side of our system hooked up and he was disgusted when he saw such a fire hazard. Trying to guess which local company did the job, the guy narrowed it down to two. When I revealed that J&S botched the job he was not surprised at all. He also told me that limit switches are nearly universal, cheap, and he keeps dozens on hand to swap out when needed.
