I had a bad experience with this company. my heat kept blowing the cold air out back in April. The company sent out two young workers, they couldn't find the problem with it. I paid $108 in cash basically for nothing. Then in this September they sent out another $108 bill to me. I'm glad when I paid the cash my friend was in my house too, she witnessed whole thing. very disappointed!

We are renting a house with a boiler previously installed by Cowles with the sticker on it stating they should be contacted to service it. It went out at the same time as Watertown is 9 degrees outside and under winter weather advisory. It was after hours which meant they charge double to come out and inspect however there really was 0 other option as we were concerned with the realistic possibility of our pipes freezing and bursting. They sent two very young men who looked at it, said It's old and we don't have the parts (no offer to order or assist further) and are unfamiliar with anything but current models. No recommendations of who else to contact or even advice on how to prevent potential damages. Simply said nothing they could do and demanded the money (one stated it's just company policy, I don't make the rules) then left us stranded. I understand that new apprentices may be unfamiliar with anything other than very modern set-ups but they did not contact anyone with more experience or do ANYTHING to assist the issue - again, the sticker on the boiler that was replaced 7 years ago states this company installed it and was who to contact for servicing. Inethical to take our money and leave us in a house with no heat and no way to remedy the situation. I can't speak to any other services they provide and will never as I would NEVER contact or use them ever again. I recommend looking elsewhere unless you enjoy throwing money away.

We applied for a NYSERDA loan to make our house more energy efficient, when that was approved we got some suggestions for contractors and we chose Cowels Contracting. They seemed nice, but told us right away that they were not doing any roof work, which we needed and were willing to pay for with our money. Cowels Constracting, knowing that we were getting our roof replaced almost around the same time they were going to do their work of putting insulation in the walls and roof (which is, I guess, all NYS was allowing us, plus exchanging SOME of our light bulbs), started their work. They put insulation in our bathroom ceiling, which already had some water damage from our leaking roof, and the weight of the insulation made half the ceiling drop about an inch. That should have been fixed by them, because they knew there was already a problem and they made it worse. On the outside of the house they loosened pieces of the siding and drilled holes to put insulation in between the walls, well, a lot of the siding was still loose and we had to fix that ourselves. When they blew the insulation into the walls they did not fix any cracks beforehand so that our dining room looked like it snowed in there because of all the messy stuff coming through the cracks. By the way, it still comes out on any windy day. All in all, the work was done poorly, we are not seeing any energy savings and our bathroom ceiling never got fixed. After calling and sending e-mails a few times, they just completely ignored us. I know we are not rich, but that is not a nice way to treat a customer.
