I've rented for 41 years so my landlord always took care of everything.   Now we own our own home so have to take care repairs, etc.  Furnace wasn't working so not knowing who to call I called Boonstra.   I'm glad I did.  It was a Saturday so I knew I could be waiting awhile for service.   Not so.   Steve called me back within 15 minutes and was at my home within 15 minutes.   He was wonderful.  He took the time to explain what he was doing and answered all my questions.  I will definitely stick with Boonstra and recommend them to others

In February of 2020 I had the furnace in a rental property emitting an odd odor. I contacted Jo-Carroll to come and check the furnace. This technician determined that the heat exchanger had gone bad and subsequently turned the gas off to the furnace and attached a tag indicating that the furnace was unsafe. I contacted several local businesses seeking estimates for a new furnace and AC. Boonstra Heating & Air was one of those companies that I had contacted. When the individual arrived I explained to him what Jo-Carroll had found and that I needed an estimate for a new HVAC system. This individual (I want to say that his name was Steve) indicated to me that his father owned the business and that he was taking it over. He went on to repeat the identical check that was performed by Jo-Carroll and arrived at the same conclusion of the furnace needing replaced. On Feb. 18, 2020 I received an emailed estimate from Boonstra. After receiving additional estimates I selected a different company to install the new system. On March 6, 2020 I received an $85 bill from Boonstra for a "service call". I was quite surprised to receive this bill and emailed them the same day reminding them that I did not request a service call and only asked for an estimate. I went on to tell them that if I was somehow mistaken that they should call me and I left them my phone number.
Today, June 2, 2020, I received a voicemail from “Pam" at Boonstra saying that I had a "past due bill" and asking that I call her back. Well I did call her back and explained to her that I never requested a service call and that I had stated this in my earlier email. I told her that I was not at all happy that they were attempting to charge me for a service which I did not request. At this point Pam said to me "well I'm tired of listening to you so bye" and then she hung up on me.
Now while I cannot speak for how good they are at installing or servicing HVAC systems I can tell you for a fact that this is how they treated me for simply requesting an estimate. You will need to decide for yourself whether or not you think that any part of my experience sounds professional to you.

Response to Steve:
First off Steve, you imply that you are just now hearing about this when the fact is that your business was notified via email the very same day that I received the first bill - March, 6 2020. Additionally I left my original feedback the very same day that I received the message from Pam - June 2, 2020.

Then you state that  when I gave you “the ok to verify that the unit for sure was failed" that this "constitutes a service call" You then say that you  are "sure" that you informed me that you “do not charge for said service If a new unit is bought” from you. That makes it sound as though you told me the quick check that you performed would be considered a service call if I did not buy a new unit from you. Is that what you are saying? Because we both know that this is not true.

You infer that your "message book" indicates that the call was for a "second opinion/estimate" which is not at all what I called your company for. As stated in my original post the technician from Jo-Carroll had already determined that the unit was no longer usable. I had no reason at all to doubt what this individual had found and was certainly not seeking a second opinion.

You say that "The bills then started being sent,,,", which makes it sound as though I received several bills from you guys when the truth is I only received one bill and that was on March 6, 2020. The very same day that I sent your company an email explaining that I never requested a service call. In fact I had assumed that the issue was resolved until I received the June 2, 2020 call from Pam - you know, the one you call your "collections department".

Then you say that "this should have been straightened out alot sooner than 9 months later". I suppose that this is the one thing that we actually agree on.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. This is Steve the one that came to your house. When we go to someone's house for an estimate then that is all that is done. When you gave me the ok to verify that the unit for sure was failed and unsafe to run, that constitutes a service call. Im sorry about the mis communication on that part but im sure I also informed you that we do not charge for said service call if a new unit is bought through us. And actually the call was recieved as a second opinion/estimate per our message book back on Monday, February 17, 2020. An estimate was then emailed to you the following day. The bills then started being sent the following month. So between then and now, 9 months later, we are getting things squared away. Im sorry about the rudeness of our collections department and I will mention something to her, but this should of been straightened out alot sooner than 9 months later. Now if a call would of been made to take it up in a kind matter with the boss im sure we could of worked something out but thats all in the past now. Once again sorry for any inconvenience this has caused you and the bill has been taken care of by me. Thanks for giving us the chance and I hope you have a very Merry Christmas.

My furnace stopped and they were there within minutes after I contacted them.  I have used them often and you should too.  Dependable, great work, friendly people and they care.
